Last week’s heat wave finally inspired our tomatoes and peppers to get a move on and we are now flush with fruit. Although we lost some tomatoes and peppers last week due to scald, this week’s supply is beautiful and so flavorful! We are really pleased with the dry farmed tomatoes which championed through the heat. We also grew a new variety of heirloom for us called Tie Dye. It is deep pink with metallic green stripes and it has a wonderful texture and flavor. The Italian peppers are juicy, sweet and we have been roasting, sautéing and baking them with every meal. The season is short so we are making the most of them.
I have been getting a lot of kind emails from the neighborhood around the farm. Some folks have asked where they can get our produce. We are currently selling our tomatoes to Phoenix Farmer’s Market, Market of Choice, Shop n Cart and to many restaurants such as Alchemy, The Loft, Lark’s, Mix and hopefully more to come. We may also come down to the Talent Farmer’s Market on Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 and hope to meet some people from the hood there.
This is a busy time of year for us and it can feel like an endless roller coaster ride. There is so much to do and so much to pick. My challenge is to enjoy the ride and to remember that the season will end and I will have to wait until next summer for this amazing food.
